Course Description:

The Joint Commission announced that emergency management and preparedness is one area that surveyors will focus on in 2002 surveys.  The Joint Commission statement, “One of the surveyor’s most important roles in the nation today is to assist organizations in achieving their goals in emergency management…” clearly identifies this as an area where hospitals will need to prepare.

This seminar will provide detailed, practical information on how to comply with JCAHO Environment of Care Emergency Preparedness Standard.  The program will also present an overview of the components of the Hospital Emergency Incident Command System.

During this program you will receive:

• A description of the HEICS system.

• Practical techniques for preparing for a survey.

• Information on changes in the Emergency Management section

• A simple but effective system for organizing required documents.

• Essential information on how to format documents.

• Important tips on how to manage the actually survey.

• Sample management plans, charts, graphs, reports and survey tools including HEICS flowchart and sample forms.
